Gail Bottomley’s 7 Tools to Internet Success

by Janna

This morning I saw a fantastic presentation by Gail Bottomley at the World Internet Summit in Auckland, New Zealand.

Gail presented her 7 Tools to Internet Success, so for those who couldn’t come all the way to New Zealand to keep up their internet marketing skills, here is a quick summary and some thoughts of mine on each tool.

Gail’s 7 Tools to Internet Success

  1. Keyword Research
  2. Keyword Research is immensely important for any website looking to drive targeted traffic. Make sure your find keywords that are targeted to your audience and don’t have too much competition from other websites. It might not be a good idea to target the word ‘dog’ but instead research keywords like ‘dog food’, ‘dog walking’ or ‘dog breeding’. If you want to be even more specific you could research keywords like ‘anti-allergenic dog food’, ‘dog walking in Auckland’ or ‘how to breed Labradors’.

In essence, you want to make sure your keyword gets enough searches while being specific enough to make sure your website visitors will be finding exactly the information they’re looking for.

  3. Video
  4. Gail is great at using Videos to increase her search engine rankings. The videos provide backlinks to her websites, and are quickly and easily found by search engines. Here are a few of her tips:

    • Always inlcude your link in the video itself and in the description
    • Use a keyword rich description to maximise your exposure to search engines
    • Name your Video channel wisely (include keywords if available
    • Re-use your video as other content by turning the audio into a podcast or using the transcript as an eBook, report or article
  5. Social Networking
  6. Social Networking is all about building relationships. Let people know, trust and like you, and eventually they might buy from you.
Gail uses social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook to build relationships and offer her internet marketing expertise to people who can use her help.

  7. Blogging
  8. Gail has several blogs, including her Gail Bottomley Online Blog which give internet marketing advice. She emphasises the need to update your blog regularly to give fresh and exciting content so people will come back to learn, and buy, from you.

  9. Forums
  10. Although some people might describe Forums as an ‘old fashioned way’ of internet marketing, many successful internet marketers started out using big forums, such as the Warrior Forum. Gail uses forums to build her profile as an expert and use the backlinks for her SEO ranking. She says it’s important to make friends before you sell, “Imagine it being like a dinner party. You wouldn’t crash into a conversation and say “Hi, I’m Gail and I have a book on how to grow taller. Would you like to buy it?”.

  11. Articles
  12. Gail uses articles to generate traffic to her website through software such as article marketer. When writing articles, make sure you provide useful information, but leave enough out that people still want to come to your website and read more.

All in all, Gail’s 7 Tools to Internet Success are all about creating leverage for your content to gain maximum exposure for your website. Are there any sure-fire tools you use that create maximum leverage for your content and gain more exposure that you’ve ever dreamed of? Please leave a comment and share!
