Mark Ling at World Internet Summit New Zealand

by Janna

This morning Mark Ling presented on home turf, at the World Internet Summit here in New Zealand.

To be honest, I had never heard of Mark before seeing him on the WIS website, but was very interested to see what he was up to. Especially because I love seeing people from all over the world and every corner of the globe (NZ is definitely in a corner, isn’t it?) succeed online.

Starting off as an affiliate marketer in 1999, then creating his own products range in How to Learn Languages, and eventually mentoring other internet marketing students, Mark makes millions of dollars every year.

He is a very down to earth guy, and especially impressed me by starting of his presentation with a few mindset fundamentals. As some of you know, personal development and wealth mindset are passions of mine and I really enjoyed Mark’s advice.

Here are his main tips:

  • Determine who you’re going to be influenced by. Your income will roughly be the average of the income of your five closest friends, so be aware of who’s influencing you and make changes if you need to.
  • Forcefully charge your mindset: Listen to personal development, business, internet marketing, or millionaire mindset audios on your way to work, on your daily run or while you’re cleaning the house. Use every opportunity you can to learn more.
  • Take consistent and daily action. Most of us are inspired nearly every day, but if you only spend half an hour every Saturday working on your internet business, you’re unlikely to produce great results. Take daily action, even if you commit as little as 20 minutes per day.
  • Failure brings you closer to success, so fail fast and learn.

During his presentation Mark Ling ran through a range of Internet Marketing topics, including affiliate marketing, search engine optimisation (SEO), keyword research and list building.

Here are some of the other golden nuggets that I took away from his presentation:

Finding profitable Keywords

  • Research forums and online groups not only to find a profitable niche, but to determine what language people are using. If people are talking about “stop dog chewing couch” you might get much more interest in that keyword, than keywords like “dog training”.
  • Use product and author names as your keyword terms. If people are searching on such specific terms, they’re likely to already be in a buying frame of mind.
  • Use “crisis” in you key phrase. The phrase “save my marriage from crisis” is four times as likely to convert as “save marriage tips”
  • Other good words to include in your key phrase are “How to…”, “Learn”, “Lessons” or “Tips”.

Mark is the owner of Traffic Travis, a SEO software which can analyse your own sites for their SEO rankings on a certain term and give your tips and tricks on how to improve your ranking. Of course, you can also use it to analyse your competitors and check out a certain niche before you start your own website. Mark explained a lot about SEO and backlinks, so I’ll definitely check out how Traffic Travis can help my business and my clients.

Did you come to see Mark speak at WIS New Zealand? What are your thoughts?
